The orange peel, dimpled or pebbled chin occurs when the mentalis (chin) muscle is contracted to create a pout. The dimpling can be observed from a very young age but it doesn’t tend to bother us until we are older when in the absence of facial expression the chin remains rough and orange peel like. Often a horizontal line (mental crease) across the chin will accompany this rough appearance making people feel old and self conscious. These aging signs only become more and more pronounced over time but can be countered with botulinum toxin treatment into the mentalis muscle causing the muscle to remain in a relaxed state.

Before and after photos of a 48 year old women post her first mentalis muscle treatment. In the after photo she is trying to contract the muscle to create the same dimpled look but is unable to - the area remains relaxed with no signs of dimpling. You will note she has a mild mental crease which will continue to improve with subsequent treatments. She will also get the benefits of the chin dropping restoring a lovely youthful V shape to the face.
