Jaw Slimming

Jaw slimming is the aesthetic approach to treating the masseter muscles. These muscles facilitate chewing - when fully contracted they elevate the lower jaw. The request for jaw slimming treatment can often present simultaneously with a history of tension headaches, habitual jaw clenching, grinding of teeth and even in those who constantly chew gum. With prolonged excessive use, the masseter muscle gets thicker and thicker and over time leads to a wider more masculine jaw. To counter this, measured amounts of botulinum toxin can be injected directly into the masseter muscles limiting their capacity and over time they atrophy and subsequently reduce in size. The aesthetic effect of slimming an overly wide jawline can be remarkable but it requires careful evaluation by a trained Cosmetic Registered Nurse or Doctor to determine if treatment would be appropriate.

This is a reasonably simple and quick procedure requiring at least three injections into each masseter muscle. Jaw slimming effects are the result of the muscle reducing in size and this may take time - headache tension, jaw clenching and teeth grinding issues are likely to be relieved within two weeks.
